Video Techniques for Crime Scenes
The use of Alternate Light Sources and barrier filters will familiarize students with recording trace evidence of street drugs and human serology. Students will learn how to use cameras in low-light and no-light situations. Students will learn how to use a variety of auxiliary lights for both indoor and outdoor crime scenes. A segment on audio will cover the use of external microphones for field interviews, custodial interrogations, statements from witnesses and victims, and how to eliminate audio from a camera’s on-board microphone.
Numerous hands-on exercises give students an opportunity to practice recording with these techniques.
Instructor-provided cameras, lights, and filters are available for all students. Students can optionally bring agency-issued camcorders or DSLRs, support equipment (tripods, monopods, etc), and light sources.

Course Overview
Upon completion of this 3-day hands-on training program, participants will learn to use camcorders, DSLRs, and mirrorless cameras and associated technology to document crime scenes, traffic accidents, disaster responses, search warrants, and other types of evidence.The use of Alternate Light Sources and barrier filters will familiarize students with recording trace evidence of street drugs and human serology.
