Video Fundamentals for Crime Scenes

Use the power of video to document crime scenes!

This course builds upon the Introduction to Video for Investigators course offered by Law Enforcement Video LLC.

Video is the most powerful form of evidence, and documents a crime scene quickly and far more effectively than still photographs. This virtual session explores the use of camcorders, DSLRs, and mirrorless cameras and associated technology to record video of crime scenes, search warrants, and other types of controlled-action video evidence. Students will learn how to use the Elements of Video Continuity to safely document the scene itself, the locations of all evidence, and details about each piece of evidence.

Macro videography (extreme close-up shots) and scale rulers are emphasized heavily for recording fine detail. An overview of Alternate Light Sources and barrier filters will familiarize students with recording trace evidence of street drugs and human serology.

This course is ideal for Law Enforcement and Public Safety Professionals, Military Investigators, Fish Game and Wildlife Enforcement, Jail and Correctional Facility Employees, School and Campus Security Professionals, and Independent Investigators.

  • How to make video equipment a force multiplier
